A Whimsical Story-Book Experience through Custom Fabrication

CoxHealth had big visions for their pediatric unit. Paragon Fabrication in collaboration with architect Torgerson Design Partners, evolved the pediatric unit from a white-box space to a three-dimensional, whimsical experience in just a few weeks. The outcome is a state-of-the-art pediatric unit that brings joy to the patients and contributes to attracting top medical professionals to the healthcare system.

A Pediatric Unit Turned Treehouse

Multi-Dimensional Trees

Custom fabricated trees were modeled after real trees to create a realistic storybook experience inside the pediatric unit.

Rustic Treehouse Feature Wall

A rustic treehouse was built into the waiting area including a hand-crafted deck, built to spec.

Commissioned Murals

The space was brought to life using commissioned murals that create a playful, outdoor scene amongst the treehouse environment.

Designed for Cleanliness

Instead of tree leaves that would require tedious cleaning, the tree foliage was painted around the tree to simplify the daily cleaning requirements.

Hot Air Balloon

Framing the nurses’ station, a hot air balloon was created with hand-fabricated, two-dimensional basket weave, topped with a hand-painted sky mural.

Whimsical Scene

Murals were painted throughout the nurses' station and were accentuated using 2-D slat wall to create tree trunks. Custom carpet brought another element of nature to the space.

Concepting

Concepts were created by the architects at Torgerson Design Partners and through partnership with Paragon Fabrication those concepts were brought to life.

Design

The design process included significant collaboration with the architecture partners, using their renderings to design each element of the project, ensuring the final space delivered on the exact vision of the project.

Fabrication & Assembly

Paragon coordinated and built each element in their shop prior to installation. In a matter of weeks the themed environment was assembled and installed in the pediatric unit.

Rendering vs. Reality

CoxHealth Pediatric Center

"It's easy to look at something on paper. But, bring them to life? To bring them into reality? That's another story and Paragon was able to do that for us. This facility is one of a kind."
